What is an endoscopy?

An endoscopy is a procedure where the inside of your body is examined using an instrument called an endoscope. An endoscope is a long, thin, flexible tube that has a light source and camera at one end which is used to look inside the stomach or bowel.

This is a safe and very effective way for you to be examined for evidence of bleeding, swelling, unusual growths or ulcers and can also be used to look for early signs of cancer in the lower bowel.

We provide 3 types of endoscopy procedures: Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, and Gastroscopy.

The latest equipment

We are proud of the high-quality endoscopic equipment we use within our clinics. We have invested in special devices to make your endoscopy more comfortable, such as:

The Transnasal endoscope – this is a super fine, very thin endoscope which is used when you have a gastroscopy procedure in one of our clinics. The scope is inserted via your nose (instead of your throat) which avoids the “gag” reflex and enables you to continue talking to the doctor during your procedure. We also find that fewer patients need any form of sedation when a transnasal endoscope is used, meaning you can go about your day soon after the procedure has finished.

The ScopeGuide – this device tracks the endoscope during the procedure, enabling the doctor to smoothly navigate through your colon.
